Barbarian movement with armor

Lamellar steel armor: movement is 20

Barbarian has plus 10 to move before armor move is applied does this mean he moves at a 30 or is he still stuck at a 20 move

Fast Movement (Ex) : A barbarian's land speed is faster than the norm for her race by +10 feet. This benefit applies only when she is wearing no armor, light armor, or medium armor, and not carrying a heavy load. Apply this bonus before modifying the barbarian's speed because of any load carried or armor worn. This bonus stacks with any other bonuses to the barbarian's land speed.

  • Good morning,

The answer you're looking for can be found here (it really should be added to the main armor page too, but that's how it was in the book so...)

Basically, you increase your base speed before armor to 40 ft. Then you reduce your speed accordingly (usually by 10 ft) back to 30 feet, assuming your original speed was 30 to start or you have slow and steady (dwarf speed = 20 ft. + 10 fast movement = 30 ft. not adjusted by armor/encumbrance).
  • Thanks for the help. I’m still a little confused about the math. So if he is wearing armor that is  medium and has a base move of 20 his movement should be 40 out of armor and 30 in it?
  • Yes, as a human, his speed would be 40 ft. when not wearing armor.
